The shadows she saw on the lawn prompted her to spend months developing an approach that in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. More like the image has been transformed to its own reproduction with the canvas taking its interpretation from the artist. It is most effective for objects that are living as well as items that have a shelf life like people or fruits. The ephemeral nature of her painting style is evident and the only thing that remains in Alexa Meade's works is a photographic image. The painting and photography techniques are closely coordinated and result in a flat two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Only certain elements of the picture like hair and eyes, display the three-dimensional dimension. Meade can sometimes incorporate her painted model into the environment around her that allows them to interact within their own world. By doing so, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between painting, photography and performing.
